Day 2 Dublin Diary

sunny 17 °C

HI all,
Began the day with lovely full Irish breakfast then straight to Trinity College for guided tour. Our guide was a young law student called Jack. The college was very interesting + built by Elizabeth I as she didnt approve of the Irish seeking their education in France and Italy! Famous students there included Oscar Wilde and Samuel Becket. College is also famous for being the set for the film Educating Rita which I didnt know. They also have the biggest Maple tree in europe, a Henry Moore sculpture and a dining room like the one in Harry Pothead. We didnt bother with the book of Kells as the queue was too long.

We went to check out a restaurant recommended by pub crawl guy and Katie thought we might eat there that evening, instead we had a cheeky half while we read the menu, followed inevitably by another cheeky half etc, etc. In short we ended up quite merry and had to return to hotel for afternoon nap. Overslept and then had 15 mins to make it to the Guinness Store House which we had already paid for. Jumped in taxi and got there just in time. Interesting tour and building but not as good as Carlsberg in Copenhagen! Christine managed to drink the free pint of guinness in spite of earlier shenanegins. Katie bummed out! Whos the mummy!

Then it all got out of hand.........
Went to restaurant attached to our hotel for dinner + had lovely french food with cheeky bottle of red. Pub also attached to hotel had live music on so we went to join in although it was late and we should have gone to bed earlier due to early next day flight. Great Irish craic going on with singing dancing etc. We met lovely people from Aberdeen and 2 couples from Dublin itself out celebrating Monas 65th birthday. Did lots of dancing and singing with the more mature reprobates and at one point ended up singing Blue Jeans for their entertainment as the guitvoc had finished.
It gets worse.....
After pub had cleared which followed lockin till about 2am I managed to invite the 2 of us to private chef leaving party back in the restaurant. Vodka, baileys, lager etc Got to bed about 5 am. Missed alarm and paddy wagon which was to take us to the airport. OOOOPS!

Night 1 Dublin Diary

Dublinäs Literary Pub Crawl

Hi all,

Sorry for the blogging delay! Been busy finding things to blog about!

Went on literary pub crawl starting at the Duke. Met lovely couple from Pennsylvania Lisa and Hoge. We were the only people from England most others from various parts of the US. Visited 4 pubs altogether including the famous ONeills which was massive and had the best ever roof top smoking area. Along the way we were entertained with Irish song, scenes from Waiting for Godot, stories about Oscar Wilde etc. By midnight we were quite merry so popped into Mac Donalds for burger and chips.

Day 1 Dublin Diary

sunny 19 °C

Hi all,

Up at 04:30 am, eating sausage and egg at the airport by 07:00am! Got shafted by rubbish baggage allowance rules, but survived by transferring shoes and books to handbag!

Flight was fast! Arrived in Dublin ahead of schedule. Collected and transfer to the hotel in a green paddywagon bus, photos to follow. Looked rather sophisticated! Mum got chatted up by the driver. Hilarious start to the holiday!

Hotel is adorable, although the rooms are tiny! Had siesta upon arrival. The weather is gorgeous here.

Mum crapped out of the 1st traditional pint at the airport, but it was only 06:30am. Had our 1st pint at a local Irish pub. Also had fabulous Irish Stew, yum.

Have visited O'Connell St, Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, Dublinia & Christ Church Cathedral (we crept into the crypt, but it was crap!). Everything else very cool!

Also saw some fabulous Russian sailors, will be tracking them down later for photo opp! Very Letter to Breznev.

Off on Irish Literary Pub Crawl tonight. We are in for a Wilde night!

Will transfer today's photos tonight!

Lots of love, Katie & Christine!
