Day 12 St Petersburg to Moscow Diary

The Red Arrow

semi-overcast 23 °C

Hey everyone!

We left the apartment at 9pm, our feet were aching, but somehow we managed to drag our suitcases to our local metro, Baltiskaya. We needed to travel 4 stops to reach the train station. You buy tokens 1st, and use these to go through turn styles to access the escalators. We knew it would be tricky to get a large suitcase through, but decided to do it anyway! I managed to slip mine underneath, but mum was't quite as lucky. Hers got stuck in the turn style, and she was unable to pull it through. This set off the alarms and 4 security guards came running towards us. They very kindly lifted her very heavy suitcase over the turn style. Very relieved and grateful! Also quite humiliated!

We reached the train station, had to queue to get our tickets with other passengers for ages! Slow moving queue! Finally got our tickets and went for a well deservered pint! We then found our platform and saw our train pulling in. Each carriage had its own attendant, dressed in a fabulous red uniform and hat, they stood to attention at the doors as the train played music! It was amazing! We found our coach and met our attendant, who spoke brilliant english. Our compartment was awesome, we had a free drink included, and breakfast, a choice of 4 options! We had a few drinks and went to sleep as breakfast was served at 06:45.

We were met on the platform for our transfer by a George Clooney lookalike! Our apartment is top. Not as nice inside as the last one, but we are on the 14th floor and our balcony overlooks the Kremlin, among other things which is a 10 minute walk from here!

So far, Moscow is brill!
